Прислали мне книгу фактов ЦРУ (2012), вышедшую в Скайхорсе.
Данные книги - приблизительно на начало лета 2011, так что Мубарак у них уже свергнут, а Каддафи еще нет и Судан еще не разделен.
Нет, почему-то, главы "Весь мир", которая на сайте ЦРУ есть.
И мне не понравилось отсутствие цветной вклейки с картами (карты есть, но нецветные, а карты к разделам по странам не только мелкие,но и подслеповатые) и нет вклейки с флагами (описание флагов есть в разделе каждой страны, но вклейки - как в русских изданиях - нет).

Biography
Hal W. Vaughan (born 1928) is an American author based in Paris, France. He has held several posts as a U.S. Foreign Service officer before becoming a journalist on assignments in Europe, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia.

He has served in the US Military in both World War II and Korea, and was involved in a number of covert intelligence activities as a US Foreign Service Officer at Karachi and Geneva during the Cold War. Vaughan has intimate knowledge of clandestine, international operations.

As a journalist, Vaughan worked for the New York Daily News and the International Press Service (IPS). He covered Mehmet Ali Agha's attempted assassination of Pope John Paul II for ABC-News in Rome, and later worked for ABC News Radio in New York.

Kent served as a staff CIA case officer in the 1990s, and as a contractor after 9/11. He has worked in various capacities in intelligence positions in Southeast Asia, Africa, Europe and the Middle East. His specialty is Counter-terrorism and Islamic Extremism.

Kent has also worked Counter-intelligence, Counter-proliferation, Counter-narcotics, and other targets. In addition to extensive liaison work with foreign intel services, he has worked in the US Intel Community in inter-agency, inter-governmental intelligence operations since 9/11. He was awarded the Intelligence Community Seal Medallion, the highest civilian intelligence agency decoration for contractors, for his counter-terrorist operations in the Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia. His work in the Philippines was described in an article by Mark Bowden in the Atlantic Monthly in March 2007, “Jihadists in Paradise.”

In the US Air Force, Kent was a Vietnamese linguist, completing language training at DLI in Monterey, CA. He served for three years at Clark AB in the Philippines.

Kent’s educational background includes a BA in Southeast Asian Studies-Linguistics from SUNYExcelsiorCollege and an MA in Linguistics and Business from OhioUniversity, as well as graduate studies in Instructional Design at Southern Illinois University, Carbondale. He has more or less linguistic expertise in Vietnamese, Italian, Malay/Indonesian, Spanish, and Arabic. He is a member of the International Association for Intelligence Education; the Society of Competitive Intelligence Professionals, and the Association for Intelligence Officers.

With a career that has spanned the globe, in multiple roles and operations, Kent has many stories to tell.

I spent thirty years in law enforcement, the last twenty-two with the NCIS-The Naval Criminal Investigative Service. As the assistant special agent in charge of counterintelligence I personally led the Jonathan Pollard espionage investigation and garnered his confession to spying for the Israeli government against the United States.
In October 2006, when the first edition of Capturing Jonathan Pollard was released, I found myself in an environment never before experienced. I first presented the story of the Pollard case to a sold-out crowd at the International Spy Museum in Washington, D.C., with C-Span Book TV in one dark corner and Israeli TV in another. Many favorable book reviews followed. I kept seeing quotes like "A chilling "true" spy thriller "- "A story of intrigue and espionage" but the superlative surprise came when the Israeli Jerusalem Post and Ha'aretz newspapers published substantial reviews. Although not overly enthusiastic, they proved fair and balanced. One reviewer even recommended that supporters of Pollard should read my book.
The true Pollard story is an extreme example of a counterintelligence failure where mistaken assumptions and leadership failures enabled Pollard to ransack America's defense intelligence long after he should have been fired.
When I present the Pollard case to organizations today, my focus is on how and why this espionage disaster occurred and how it could have been prevented. As the saying goes, "If we don't learn from our past we're doomed to repeat it." The Pollard case is indeed a textbook example of what can happen within our government and corporate America when management and security fail to follow their own policies.
